Law Firm Website Design

Custom WordPress websites for law firms, led directly by Dan Gilroy from first call through launch. No templates, no page builders, and no account-team handoffs. Website design is the flagship service, supported by search, content, and identity work when the project needs it.

Custom starts with the firm, not a template

The work begins with the firm’s practice mix, the clients it wants more of, and the way it competes in its market. An insurance defense firm pitching claims managers needs a different site from a personal injury practice earning trust with families. A mediator building a neutral practice needs something different again.

The scope is equally specific. Dan defines the strategy, sitemap, content responsibilities, design system, templates, WordPress build, migration, on-page SEO, testing, and launch work before the project starts. The proposal makes clear what is included, what the firm will provide, and where a specialist is involved.

Each site is developed as a custom WordPress theme with clean, lean code rather than a page builder or a stack of plugins pretending to be a system. The first presentation is already a working, password-protected website, so the firm reviews design and content in context rather than approving a separate mockup before development. The finished site is built to load efficiently, support strong Core Web Vitals, remain accessible, and stay manageable after launch.

Law firm websites carry requirements generalist designers often discover late: bar advertising rules that vary by state, disclaimer and no-attorney-client-relationship language, responsible treatment of results and testimonials, and the credibility register legal buyers expect.

The Florida law firm website design page shows how state-specific guidance and regional positioning affect that planning.

Dan spent sixteen years inside Washington law and policy before starting the studio, three with the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance and thirteen inside White & Case and Patton Boggs. He is a policy professional rather than an attorney, but that experience still shapes the questions asked, the risks anticipated, and the way a firm’s lawyers review the work. The full background is on the About page.

The goal is confidence, not decoration

A law firm website has one job: make the right client confident enough to call. Design earns the first impression, structure makes practices and people findable, proof answers hesitation, and one clear contact path finishes the job. Decoration that does not serve that purpose stays out. The pricing page explains how the scope and quote come together.

The examples below are live client sites. The reviews page collects what firms say after launch in their own words, and the comparison of the best law firm website design companies includes the competitors Dan respects.

Who we build for

Three kinds of firms make up most of our work. Each gets a different kind of site, because each earns trust differently.

Small Firms & Solo Attorneys

Focused, custom sites that make a smaller firm look established and distinct without pretending to be something it is not.

Mid-Sized & Larger Firms

For firms of ten to fifty-plus attorneys: deeper sitemaps, clear practice sections, consistent attorney biographies, and an appropriately scaled visual presence.

Mediators & Arbitrators

Retired judges and senior trial attorneys building a neutral practice need quiet credibility and an easy path to the calendar, not litigation marketing.

What is included in every project

The scope changes by firm. These parts never come out.

Custom homepage and interior designs

The first website presentation is one fully coded, password-protected direction based on the approved scope, questionnaire, brand, and content plan.

Hand-built WordPress, no page builders

Clean, fast code your staff can edit through straightforward WordPress screens. Nothing locks you into us or into a proprietary tool.

Content entry and copy help

We load every page, edit the copy you provide, and define any new writing in the quote up front. Responsibility for every page is clear before the project starts.

On-page and technical SEO

Title tags, meta descriptions, heading structure, schema, XML sitemaps, and clean URLs are built into the project rather than added after launch.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Optimized images, lean code, and appropriate caching. Performance is treated as a design requirement and tested before launch.

Mobile, tablet, and desktop testing

Every template is tested across devices before launch. Most prospective clients will first meet your firm on a phone.

Launch redirects and search continuity

Changed and retired URLs are mapped to the most relevant new pages so earned search value and useful inbound links are not abandoned.

Post-launch support

Launch is not a disappearing act. We stay available for changes, questions, and the small fixes every new site needs in its first months.

How the website process works

A concise view from first conversation to launch. The written proposal sets the project-specific scope and schedule.

Conversation and proposal

A Zoom call defines the firm, audience, goals, content responsibilities, and required functionality. Dan then prepares a comprehensive written proposal.

Kickoff and foundation

After the agreement, first payment, and questionnaire, the working brief is set. If logo design is included, that identity work comes before the website.

Coded initial website

Dan presents one fully coded, password-protected website based on the approved scope, brand, questionnaire, and content plan.

Refinement and launch

The firm reviews the working site, agreed changes and content are completed, and final QA follows. The remaining balance is due before launch.

Case study

Schuck Law: clearer paths and measured form activity

Dan Gilroy Design launched the Schuck Law redesign on September 20, 2025. The project reorganized a dense legacy site around Oregon, Washington, and federal employment-law paths, then connected those routes to a visible consultation form.

Problem

The earlier site used a dense, desktop-era navigation and placed a large volume of wage-law material, review content, and a headline recovery figure into one opening experience. Visitors had to scan many equal-weight choices before finding the route that applied to them.

Constraint

The firm serves workers in two states across many wage and employment issues. The redesign had to make that breadth easier to navigate while preserving detailed legal information and a prominent consultation path.

Decision

Organize the site around Oregon, Washington, and federal routes; use the attorneys and real firm imagery as primary trust signals; and keep the consultation form visible without displacing the legal content.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a custom law firm website cost?

Every project is quoted individually; there are no packages or template tiers. The price depends on page count, content readiness, features, and branding scope. Our pricing page explains the drivers, and a written quote usually follows within a day or two of a first conversation.

How long does a law firm website take to build?

The written proposal sets the target schedule after the page count, content responsibility, optional logo or writing work, functionality, and approval path are known. Work begins after the agreement, first payment, completed questionnaire, and required starting materials are in place. The process page explains the full sequence.

Do you really only work with law firms?

Yes. Since 2004 the studio has built more than 300 websites for law firms, mediators, and arbitrators, and nothing else. That focus means the conventions, ethics rules, and buyer psychology of legal websites are already built into the work.

Will we be able to edit the site ourselves?

Yes. Sites are built in plain WordPress with no page builders, so your staff can update bios, practice pages, and news through normal editing screens. Most clients handle day-to-day edits themselves and call us for larger changes.

Who actually does the work?

Dan leads strategy, design, content direction, and every client conversation. Longtime specialists handle development, SEO, or graphic support when the scope calls for it. There is no account-management layer, and Dan remains accountable from the first call through launch.

Do you redesign existing law firm websites?

Yes, redesigns are a large share of the work. We look at what the current site does well, keep the URLs and content that earned search equity, and rebuild the design and structure around them. Rankings are protected with redirects, and nothing goes live until you have approved the full design.

Do you handle hosting and maintenance?

Sites launch on secure managed WordPress hosting with daily backups and automatic updates, and we stay available for support after launch. If your firm already has hosting it is happy with, we can usually work with it; if not, setup is part of the project.
